PEOPLE IN CRISIS

Recovery Programme

The Rhema Recovery Programme is a halfway house for recovering substance abusers. It is a six-month live-in programme.

After being at a rehab or imprisoned it is very difficult for anyone to face the hardships of the outside world.  Our community offers spiritual and emotional discipleship.  In working and learning a variety of life skills, our residents have time to prepare to be integrated into society and to be reconciled with their families. A follow-up system is in place once the resident leaves our programme.

This is a working programme, where residents learn discipline, work ethics, and new ways of dealing with conflict.

The following courses are offered:

  • Christian 12-steps

  • Christian foundations

  • Residents support group

  • Family support group

  • Christian counseling

  • Bible reading

  • Bible study

  • Mentorship course

  • Biblical Gender Equality Workshops

Our Recovery Programme is supported by Rhema Bible Church's congregation members. There is no charge.

Please ensure that you send this application form to recovery@hocsa.org

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker,
But he who honours Him shows mercy on the needy. (Proverbs 14:31)

Disaster Relief

The poor are often most vulnerable when they are victims of a disaster and it is in times of crisis that we are called to respond with compassion – a compassion that is demonstrated in a practical way to alleviate suffering by providing food, blankets, clothes and at times building materials.

In partnership with other relief organizations we respond with food, blankets and care to people in crisis as a result of fires, floods, evictions or other disasters.

Soup Kitchens

We have over 70 feeding projects located in various disadvantaged areas in Gauteng.  These soup kitchens are run by our congregation members and home group leaders and  Hands of Compassion provides assistance with food vouchers.  Our soup kitchen coordinator, collects food from various stores e.g. Woolworths, Spar, home industries and re-distributes it to the various areas.

Food distribution is done weekly to schools, organizations and informal settlements, as well as to the sick who visit our clinic.

Hands of Compassion at the Church

Soup kitchens and bible study are held daily at the Church for people living on the streets.  Counselling and assistance are given to anyone in need.
Our Food and Clothing Depot receives clothing and food from our congregation members which in turn are distributed to the poor.

Emergency Rooms are set aside for overnight accommodation at the Church (cnr Hans Schoeman and Rabie Streets, Randpark Ridge, Randburg).

If you have any contacts in the food industry, kindly call our soup kitchen coordinator Reggie Moonsamy at 011-796-4069.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28)
